Welcome to Black Vienna Online — a computer-moderated, play-by-web version of the boardgame Black Vienna (Gilbert Obermair, Franckh-Kosmos, 1987).
In Black Vienna, three to six players compete to discover the leaders of the notorious post-war crime ring "Black Vienna." There are 27 suspects but each player will have an alibi for only a few of them. Through careful questioning of the other players, each hopes to be the first to uncover the crime rings' identity.
Black Vienna is the finest deduction game I've played. Its Achilles' heel however, is that a single mistake by any of the players ruins the game for everybody. In order to address this, I created this computer-moderated version. Play is entirely automated, with updates sent by e-mail to all players. Not only does this eliminate accidental errors, but the slower pace allows for more deliberate and considered deductions. Of course, it's up to the players themselves how fast, or slow, they choose to play.
